Lookout! The new-generation Toyota Yaris is looking to set a new benchmark in the light-car market with the introduction of in-demand premium features and Toyota's big ideas as standard.
Safety features and advanced driver assist includes a new airbag design, a stiffer and more agile chassis, as well as technologies aimed at reducing accidents at intersections.
The new-generation Toyota Yaris is set to launch here in Australia in August, and will be offered in Ascent Sport, SX and ZR grades. The SX and ZR grades will also have the option of a Hybrid powertrain.
An all-new 1.5L three cylinder will replace the current four-cylinder engine that promises to deliver more power and torque whilst using less fuel. Maximum power jumps to 88kW in the petrol motor, and the fourth-generation Hybrid system will deliver 85kW.
The all-new Yaris will include cutting edge safety technologies including pre-collision systems that use camera, radar and autonomous braking. It can detect vehicles and pedestrians, day or night, and cyclists during the day.
This model will also be the first Toyota in the country where this system can also detect and automatically brake to avoid other vehicles and pedestrians when turning at intersections.
The on board camera can also detect speed signs, and land keeping technologies will apply force to the steering wheel to keep the vehicle on track.
Front and rear parking sensors that can trigger the brakes to avoid contact will be standard on the ZR models, and a reversing camera will be standard on all models.
Inside, all models of the new generation Toyota Yaris will feature a 7 inch display screen, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and enhanced voice recognition from the Toyota Multimedia system. The mid-range SX models add satellite navigation, along with keyless smart entry and push button start.
The new model will offer twelve exterior colours, and ZR model buyers will have the option to choose a black or white roof with selected colours.
